VIOLIN BOW BY NICHOLAS REMY MAIRE, PARIS, ca. 1835.
Octagonal stick of fine ironwood of a chocolate brown colour, the head lining of ivory. Fine, original ebony frog, maillechort mounted with pearl eyes and the distinctive metal heel cap. Maillechort and ebony button, iron screw and brass eyelet all original. Bi-colour silk lapping.
The bow is unbranded and sold with the certificate of Michael Taylor. Weight 59.5 gms; length 740mm. The bow was restored in 2002 by Ian Watchorn and Lennox Holt.
In excellent condition in every respect with minimal wear to both stick and frog. A fine, rare and distictive bow with excellent playing qualitites.
