MID-18th CENTURY VENETIAN VIOLIN BOW

Based closely on a recently restored original, this is a typical, screw mounted, high baroque bow. the original is possibly from the Tononi workshop and closely resembles others from this maker. Overall length: 698mm, weight 52gms.

Typical specification for these bows is a fluted stick with octagonal handhold, snakewood frog and ivory button. Average weight: 50-52gms

many players prefer the convenience of screw mounts for viol bows. This is an example of a clip-in viol bow I built for a client tith a later conversion to screw mounts using a system commonly seen on other types of French bows during the 18th century to achieve the same result.
